Hiya!

Thanks for this really useful tutorial. I’d learnt a lot of it already from a number of web sites but finding all the information in one place with a nice easy example was dead useful. I don’t suppose you’re planning a follow-up about how to set up SQL Server on the cluster? ;o)

Richard.

hi,

this is purnachandra rao working for one of the reputed IT Company in Bangalore, india.

I got a problem while doing the Nodes COnfiguration. In the Creating Cluster window i
selected the Quorum disk and provided the Cluster username and Password. But, it’s saying
Logon failure: unknown username and bad password.

Hi,
I have configured the 2 node cluster and all is fine but I need to create approx 8 Virtual
Disks. The only way I can seem to add extra storage is to create new SCSI adapters and then
I can assign a new disk per adapter but this method will only allow me to create 4 disks
Does anybody know how I create Virtual SCSI ID’s so I can assign more than one disk per SCSI
Adapter ?
Any tips much appreciated
Thanks

Hi,
thank you very much for your article.
This might sound like a stupid question, but how do you install win2003 on a virtual node?
You dont have to send me a step by step guide, just tell me how do you install any thing on a virtual machine? How to start?
thank you very much in advance.
Roi

SQL almost completely installs itself on Clusters as it’s a cluster aware setup.

If you need something to follow try this. I found it very useful in configured SQL Server on a Microsoft Virtual Server Configured cluster also.

I could figure out what step i was missing to create a shared disk for the quorum. Until I
read the article.

Thanks for the effort you took to create this easy to use “How to…”

Hi Bob,

Great tutorial. One question… Do you know what limits the number of SCSI ids that are available? I only see 6 & 7 so I can only do one shared disk. I see some other poster said they 4 disks so I’m guessing they see 8 ids. Can you tell me how many SCSI ids you see on your system and if you know what determines how many are available? If it matters, I’m doing my testing on a newer 3ghz HP desktop.

Thanks
Charlie

Regarding your post about clustering Windows Server 2003, how would I go about attaching a virtual shared array to the 2 node cluster?

Thank you!

Hi,
in response to roi ^^,
It is quite simple.
- go to the edit config page for the virtual machine you wish to install.
- click CD/DVD
- if you want to use a real cd - click ‘Physical CD/DVD Drive’ and select the drive the disk is in, or to use an image - enter the path to the ISO
- click OK
- open the remote control for the VM
- down the bottom of the page click reset
- re-enter your password

your computer should now restart, and boot from CD. one the CD has booted it should be quite easy to install.

PS, Bob, your ssite is really fantastic, and this article has helped me heaps, but i have one small critisism to make. if you want this great site to be taken seriously by techies all over the world, therefore increasing links - therefor pageviews - therefore possible advertising revenue, i would suggest you take pictures for you and your son off the home page. it seems your site is aimed at both your (non techie) family and freinds, and also to us techies. could i recommend you simply make a subfolder, with no links to-and-from your main site for your family?

this is just a hint because i do really like your site, and i hope you have the oppertunity to help other, and make some money along the way!

thanks,
Nathan Velden
