Microsoft Operations Manager is an datacenter operations management tool.  You can do things like monitor all of your servers from a central console, consolidate the event logs from all of your servers to one place, create capacity planning and uptime reports, etc.  What makes the product especially useful is the “knowledge base” information that is included.  The product groups produce management packs containing rules, reports, and trouble shooting information for all of the Microsoft products - the newest of these management packs are available for Automated Deployment Services (ADS) and Windows Server 2003 DHCP Services.

For those of you following the evolution of the next version of Microsoft Operations Manager, the product group has created an online preview of the product for customers.  Using the same Virtual Server technology as the Microsoft Online Management experience, you can take a hands on tour of the MOM 2005 interfaces including the Administrator, Operator and Reporting consoles.

You can also sign up for the MOM 2005 pre-release program here.
