I'm a big fan of cool 3D wallpapers - it gives me something neat to look at when I've not got my desktop cluttered up with junk as can be seen most of the time through the desktop cam. Sure, they take up precious system resources. But, hey, I'm willing to trade efficiency for a little "eye candy" indulgence. Over the last couple of years, I've found a few really great sites for original artwork 3D wallpaper - some for free, others for a charge. These are really talented people out there creating amazing pictures with nothing but their imagination and a well-equipped computer with the appropriate software.

www.digitalblasphemy.com - This is my absolute favorite. Ryan Bliss is amazing and has some great art available for download.

http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/index.html - Another great one. Greg Martin has some fantasic stuff available here.

http://www.shiftedreality.com - Juergen Eilts lives in Germany. He has some great 3D art here - his nature scenes dominate the collection and are the most intriguing to me.

http://www.plasmadesign.co.uk - Rob David Randtoul has some great stuff here. Complete with widescreen and dual monitor backgrounds.

http://www.deepdarkdigital.com - Eric Knight Holbrook has some fantastic stuff he's done - both photography and 3D art.

If you have a PocketPC-based Smartphone, this looks VERY cool. You have the full functionality of Pocket Streets available to you while on the go with your phone. You can create maps and download them to the device, search for nearby restaurants, hotels, ATMs, etc. You can search by address or by point of interest. I live by Streets and Trips on the PC, so this is a welcome addition for me while I'm on the go.

Cool.  Too bad I don’t read Japanese…I want to know how this was built!

At Wednesday's dinner we discussed controlling a rover or submarine over the Internet. It does exist. "RemoteDriver is a home made robot made out of a tablet-pc a webcam and an old rc car chassis. When online it can be driven by anyone from anywhere in the world. All you need is a good ammount bandwith and a flash player to interact with it. Login at the indicated time above for some hot rod realtime action."
